Switchboxes of a KGB listening system. These switchboxes were found in Hotel Rîga during remodelling in September 1999. The surveillance of foreigners was generally known, but local people as well were subject to surveillance. The KGB had a network of informers in all offices, factories and apartment buildings. In the Soviet system privacy as such was subject to control by the Communist Party and the state.
